Pre-pointe and Tertiary Dance Assessments

One of the most exciting times in a young performer’s lives are the transitions to the next stage of training. For many young performers who are progressing through one of the ballet syllabi, one key event is the transition from flat to pointe. Another key milestone is the transition from high school to tertiary education and training. We are thrilled at Sports Lab to be an integral part in the progression of their pre-professional development by offering pre-pointe and tertiary dance assessments with our experienced physiotherapists.

What can you expect from your pre-pointe or tertiary dance assessment?

Our physiotherapists will thoroughly examine the necessary requirements of the individual performer in order to assess their capacity to commence pointe work or tertiary dance training. This will include an in depth analysis of the performers injury history, current strength, joint range of motion, static and dynamic balance, endurance and course specific requirements.

What happens if I pass my assessment?

If the performer is successful in passing the assessment they will be provided with a letter for their instructor in recognition of passing their pre-pointe or tertiary dance assessment. In addition they will receive education regarding the results of their testing and an exercise program for ongoing development.

What happens if I don’t pass my assessment?

If the performer is unsuccessful in passing the first time, the physiotherapist will provide thorough feedback about where development is needed and a comprehensive program of strength and conditioning exercises targeting the areas where the performer requires growth. This approach is designed to ensure success for the performer when they return for a follow up test. The performer will only be required to complete the elements of the assessment they were unsuccessful or borderline passing in the initial assessment.
